BATTLE DOME BIOTICA

Synthetic Biology is a relatively new discipline that builds upon the existing work in the field of genetic engineering, the thing that makes it special is the attempt to apply the ideology and methodology of engineering to biology. BATTLE DOME BIOTICA is a speculative project that looks at one possible outcome of this new technologies adoption throughout society. But how do we talk about something that has not yet happened? How do/can we talk about the future? These questions for me are more interesting as they provide the framework as opposed to the subject matter.

VIEWER POSITION

While it is suggested that BATTLE DOME BIOTICA was televised some time in the early 20th century, the project as a whole positions the viewer at a point further in the future. The details about this far future are kept ambiguous, as what is more important for me is to enable the viewer to look back into the future viewing it as possible history passed as opposed to possible history to be. To give a sense of time-frame, the project revolves around the idea of digital archaeology. The Wikipedia page, originally documenting the event is no longer in use. It has become a historical artifact akin to an ancient and crumbling statue.
